Getting started

What is Dumbly?

Dumbly is a workout app for iPhone and iPad built around two dumbbells. It creates a workout plan based on your goal, fitness level and available time, then guides you through each session at home.

How do I set up my plan?

When you first open the app, you answer a few questions about your goal, your experience with strength training and how long you want each session to be. Dumbly uses your answers to build your plan. See how it works.

Which devices does Dumbly work on?

Dumbly is available for iPhone and iPad through the App Store. Check the App Store listing for the iOS and iPadOS versions it supports.

Should I check with a doctor before starting?

If you have an injury, a medical condition, are pregnant, or haven’t exercised in a long time, speak to a doctor or qualified professional before starting a new exercise program. Dumbly provides general fitness guidance, not medical advice.

Equipment & workout space

What equipment do I need?

A pair of dumbbells. Dumbly’s workouts are designed around two dumbbells, so you don’t need a gym or machines.

What weight should my dumbbells be?

Choose a weight you can lift with control and good form through every rep. If you’re unsure, start lighter: you can make a set harder by adding reps or slowing down, and move to a heavier pair later. Adjustable dumbbells are a space-saving way to cover several weights.

How much space do I need?

Enough room to lie down and to extend your arms overhead and to the sides without hitting anything. Clear the area of trip hazards, and train on a stable, non-slip surface.

Fitness levels & workout options

I'm a complete beginner. Can I use Dumbly?

Yes. Select the beginner level during setup. Each exercise includes a demonstration so you can see the movement before you do it.

What's the difference between the levels?

Dumbly offers beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Your level sets the starting point for your plan, matching it to how much strength training you’ve done before.

What types of workouts are there?

You can train your full body in one session, or focus on your upper body, lower body or core.

How long does a workout take?

You choose your preferred session length when you set up your plan. The app shows an estimated duration for each workout before you start.

Plans & challenges

What are the 30, 60 and 120-day challenges?

Structured programs with a fixed length. Each one sets out workout days and rest days from start to finish, so you always know what today involves. Compare the challenges.

Which challenge should I choose?

Choose the one you’re confident you can finish. If you’re new or returning to exercise, 30 days is a good place to start. The app shows the number of workouts and session length for each challenge before you begin.

Will a challenge guarantee results?

No app can guarantee results. Progress depends on your starting point, consistency, sleep, nutrition and other factors. A challenge gives you a structured plan and a record of the work you’ve done.

Offline access

Can I work out without an internet connection?

Yes, you can follow your workouts offline.

Which features need an internet connection?

Features powered by AI, such as the AI Coach, need an internet connection to work.

Subscriptions & account

How are subscriptions billed?

Subscriptions are purchased and billed through Apple’s App Store. Dumbly doesn’t receive or store your payment card details. Current plans and prices are shown in the app before you subscribe.

Does my subscription renew automatically?

Yes. According to Dumbly’s Terms of Use, subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

How do I cancel?

Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings on your device: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. See the Terms of Use for details, including refunds.

Is there a free trial?

When a free trial is offered, its details are shown in the app before you start it. Under the Terms of Use, a trial converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can request account deletion. The Privacy Policy states that account and workout data are deleted within 30 days, and that you can export your workout history as a CSV file before deleting your account.
